NASA has announced that it has sent a drone called Dragonfly to explore the microbial life of Saturn’s largest moon, Titan. Dragonfly had taken part in many missions, including collecting samples from a comet.
Dragonfly will be sent in 2026 and will arrive in Titan by 2034. The estimated cost of the program was announced to be 850 million dollars.
NASA Planetary Science Director Glaze said that the main reason that excited him was the Titan’s environment for life. Titan has a thick atmosphere, but also lakes with methane lakes, ice mountains and an ocean beneath the surface.
